Special salt for swimming pools and for salt chlorinators.

Advantages of saltwater pools

One of the first aspects that we are going to value as advantages is the saving of money, both in maintenance and in chemical products. By maintaining stable levels, chemical consumption is reduced, and by automating the process we save on working hours or personnel. By not having to handle the chlorine directly, we reduce the risk of accidents, and we ensure that the concentration of chlorine in the water will never be excessive. Goodbye to swimming pools with water that smells of chlorine, goodbye to skin and eye irritations, goodbye to damaged hair. Although water evaporates, salt does not, the only loss of salt that occurs is when we enter and leave the pool, so even if we add more water the nivel of salt will be the same, and even if we have to add some salt, the cost is very low. As we have already mentioned, the amount of salt in the water is not enough to irritate our eyes or our skin, nor does it damage the lawn in the garden. There is less salt than in seawater, and an amount similar to what can be in a tear. Therefore, buying pool salt may be the best option for your pool.

Salt control in swimming pools

It is very important that the concentration does not drop, so that the salt chlorinator works correctly. The salt does not evaporate, but it can lower its concentration if you do a lot of backwashing of the filter (more frequent in areas with trees). Add salt in the proportion recommended by the manufacturer of your chlorinator for cases where you need to compensate for the salinity. If, on the other hand, the salt nivel is too high, empty the pool slightly and add new water. In any case, if the lack or excess of salt is repeated, it may happen that you do not have the salt chlorinator working for the right time and at the right power or that it has a problem.

An easy formula to calculate the amount of salt we have to add to the pool is this: we multiply the cubic meters of the pool by the grams of salt/liter that we have to add and we get the kilos of salt to add. For example: 40m3 x 2gr = 80kg. of salt

pH control as a daily maintenance task for a saltwater pool

In pools with salt chlorinator it is very important to measure the pH of the water every morning, since salt chlorination usually raises it. The pH must be close to 7.2 for it to be comfortable and for the good condition of the technical water control devices and the pool elements themselves.

  • If the pH is low, i.e. the water is acidic, the electrode of the salt chlorinator deteriorates more quickly (any metal element that is in contact with the water), the chlorine vapour increases and people's skin and eyes are irritated. The solution is to add lifting fluid (pH+).
  • If the pH is high, the disinfectant loses its effectiveness and more is consumed, algae proliferate, and the skin and mucous membranes are also irritated. The solution is to add reducing fluid (pH–).

What is salt electrolysis?

Salt electrolysis is the process of disinfecting water using natural salt and not chemical chlorine.

It is one of the most popular disinfection methods for pool water treatment in recent years, both for the quality of the water, as well as for the ease of maintenance, as well as for the absence of handling of chemical elements.

The chlorination cell uses the electrolysis process by which the salt (NaCl) is transformed into sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) dissolved in water, which is a powerful disinfectant that destroys practically all the microorganisms that our pool water may have.

The cell will automatically generate the free chlorine needed for your pool and without the need to add anything other than salt to the water.

How much initial salt is adequate? Approximately 5 kg per cubic metre, or 5 grams per litre.

What to do with salt pools in heat waves?

The use of swimming pools in these periods of extreme heat is higher and consequently chlorine consumption is higher.

Specifically in pools with salt equipment and pH pump, the recommendations are:

- Increase the number of operating hours to 8 or 10 hours depending on the case, always at hot hours and when we have bathers in the water.

- Increase the production of the team, (if the increase in hours is not enough). Normally, the team works or is sized to work at 75%, increase to 90 or 100%.

- There is the possibility of providing stabilizing water with a concentration of no more than 40 ppm, so that the chlorine generated by the salt equipment is more stable in the water.

- And as a more valid or recommended option, after a very hot day and with many bathers, if the water requires it, because it is brownish or somewhat cloudy, use 55% granulated Dichloro.

This product, in a matter of 2 or 3 hours, leaves the water impeccable and suitable for bathing the next day. It does not affect the pH, eliminates possible chloramines in the water and kills algae that may have proliferated.

If the pool is tile, we can distribute it directly to the pool water. And if it is made of Polyester, liner or painted, previously dilute it in water, before distributing it throughout the pool.

ESTA SAL TAMBIEN SIRVE PARA DESCALCIFICADORES?
Paratureforma replied:
"Yo diría que sí, ten en cuenta que esta sal virgen natural es en un porcentaje altísimo, superior al 90% cloruro sódico, y el resto componentes naturales tales como sodio, magnesio, potasio y yodo, pero ya en porcentajes muy pequeños. Tiene que cumplir alguna composición determinada el descalcificador?"
