Waterproofing

Protecting structures from damp is a crucial step in ensuring the durability and safety of any building through the use of efficient, high-performance waterproofing systems.

The importance of waterproofing systems

Waterproofing systems provide the best defence against water ingress in roofs, terraces, façades and damp interior areas. Choosing the right system prevents serious structural problems, avoiding leaks, mould and the premature deterioration of building materials.

Among the most commonly used options are liquid polyurethane membranes and single-component elastic mortars. These solutions stand out for forming a continuous film without joints or overlaps, adapting perfectly to complex geometries, gutters, junctions with vertical walls and areas subject to regular footfall.

For the protection of areas exposed to the elements, such as balconies or walkable terraces, acrylic coatings reinforced with mesh provide excellent weather resistance. This technology withstands extreme thermal expansion and constant solar radiation without cracking or losing its original elastic properties.

Waterproofing in damp indoor areas

In indoor areas with high levels of moisture, such as built-in shower trays or bathrooms, the use of waterproofing membranes is essential. Installing them before tiling ensures a completely watertight barrier, protecting the underlying floor slabs against accidental damp and seepage through the tile joints.

Likewise, proper preparation of the substrate is essential to achieve optimal adhesion of the waterproofing treatment. The surface must be cleaned, existing cracks repaired and bonding primers applied to ensure that the products form a uniform, durable and completely watertight seal across the entire area.

Finally, using elastic sealants at critical junctions and drains guarantees comprehensive, long-term protection. Investing in high-quality technical solutions minimises maintenance costs and preserves the structural integrity of the property for many years of continuous use.

Steps for correctly waterproofing a surface

• Thoroughly clean and dry the surface before applying any treatment.
• Apply a suitable primer to improve the product’s adhesion.
• Reinforce corners, half-round flashings and drains with elastic tapes or mesh.
• Observe the drying times between coats as specified in the technical data sheets.
