Asphalt sheets are laminar waterproofing elements, composed of bituminous mastic, reinforcement and finishing materials. They are used for waterproofing roofs, buried walls, etc. They are usually classified according to the main material of which they are composed:

  • Asphalt waterproofing
  • Synthetic waterproofing
  • Liquid waterproofing

Classification of waterproofing sheets

- Asphalt sheets are classified based on their finish (sand, polyethylene film, mineral granule or aluminium), as well as by their bituminous mastic (bitumen modified with SBS elastomers, self-adhesive bitumen modified with SBS elastomers or bitumen modified with plastomers) and reinforcement (fibreglass, polyester felt, etc.).

- Synthetic sheets based on plasticized PVC , manufactured by calendering and reinforced with different types of reinforcement. Intended for the waterproofing of roofs, buried structures, reservoirs, canals and dams.

- And waterproofing using liquid compounds, with a wide variety of products, both bituminous, polyurethanes, and rubbers...

Frequently asked questions

The advantages of asphalt sheets compared to other roofing materials are:

  • Cost: They are more economical.
  • Durability: Resistant to adverse weather conditions.
  • Easy installation: Do not require specialised tools.
  • Variety of styles and colours: Greater customisation options.
  • Simple maintenance: Do not require intensive care.
  • Easy repairs and replacements: Quick and cost-effective solutions.

These advantages make asphalt sheets a popular and reliable choice for roofing.

The expected lifespan of asphalt sheets is approximately 20 to 25 years. For EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer), the expected lifespan is around 10 to 20 years. In the case of PVC (polyvinyl chloride), the estimated lifespan is 20 to 30 years.

It is important to note that these figures can vary depending on factors such as proper maintenance, exposure to extreme weather conditions, and the overall care of the roofing material.

According to the manufacturer and its technical datasheet, they were tested under external fire using the ENV 1187 method with burning torches (test 1) and their reaction was assessed according to EN 13501-1:2002, with the E rating, which means no ignition of the substrate, and can therefore be considered fire resistant.

Yes, asphalt sheets are available in various colours and materials. Some of the colours include:

    • Red slate
    • Grey slate

      And different materials such as:

      • Glass
      • LBM
      • SBS
