VELUX roof windows

Installing roof windows is the best way to transform attics and spaces under the roof into bright, well-ventilated and comfortable rooms. These architectural solutions allow you to make the most of natural light whilst ensuring excellent thermal and acoustic insulation in the home.

Types of opening mechanisms and advantages of roof windows

The variety of opening systems available means that each window can be tailored to the needs of the space and the roof pitch. Pivot models are easy to operate in standard-sized openings, whilst top-hung models offer sweeping panoramic views of the outside.

Among the most important technical features is the use of reinforced thermal insulation glazing, designed to prevent heat loss in winter and block solar radiation in summer. Thanks to this effective protection, you can optimise the home’s overall energy efficiency.

The materials used in manufacture vary according to the environment and the humidity levels of the room in which they are installed. Varnished wood brings natural warmth to living rooms and bedrooms, whilst white polyurethane finishes are ideal for bathrooms and kitchens due to their high durability.

Automation and roof accessories

Furthermore, the integration of electric or solar-powered automation systems facilitates remote control via remote controls or smart sensors. This technology allows you to programme ventilation and automatically close the windows in the event of sudden rain, for greater peace of mind.

To enhance comfort in the loft, there is a wide range of accessories such as external shutters, awnings and interior curtains. These accessories help to control light levels, reduce rain noise and protect the interior from overheating in summer.

Maintenance and installation on the roof

Maintaining these window units is straightforward and simply involves periodically checking the weather seals and cleaning the external frames. For the glass panes, simply use water and mild soap, making use of the pivoting mechanisms that allow easy access to the outside surface.

Before starting the project, it is advisable to check the dimensions of the opening and the type of roof to select the appropriate sealing frame. Proper perimeter sealing ensures a secure and durable installation, free from leaks and damp throughout its service life.

Key benefits of fitting your loft with roof windows:

• A significant increase in natural light and ventilation in attic rooms.
• High thermal and acoustic insulation for greater energy savings in the home.
• Pivot or top-hung opening options adapted to different roof pitches.
• Automated systems with rain sensors for preventive safety closure.
• Compatibility with blinds and curtains for complete control over sunlight.
