Waterproofing membranes

Waterproofing membranes are the simplest and most reliable way to protect showers, bathrooms, terraces and swimming pools from water before laying the tiles. Systems such as Estil Guru’s Water-Stop are fixed with tile adhesive and allow tiles to be laid directly on top, without the need for additional layers of mortar or long drying times.

Water-Stop membranes and decoupling membranes for every surface

A waterproofing membrane creates a continuous, elastic barrier beneath the tiling that prevents water from reaching the substrate. This prevents leaks, damp and mould, and protects floor slabs and structures. Decoupling membranes also absorb minor movements in the substrate, preventing the tiles from cracking.

Choose the membrane according to the surface you wish to protect:

• Water-Stop membranes in rolls: from small sizes for a shower to large rolls for terraces and swimming pools.
• G-Flex decoupling membranes: 14-metre and 30-metre rolls that waterproof the surface and prevent stresses in the substrate from causing the tiles to crack.
• Breathable waterproof membrane for use under roof tiles: protects the roof from water whilst allowing vapour to escape.
• Waterproof plastic roll: a cost-effective moisture barrier for building sites.

Accessories for sealing critical points

Leaks almost always start at corners, drains and pipe penetrations. That is why a complete waterproofing system combines the membrane with reinforcement pieces and specific sealants that maintain the continuity of the barrier.

Complete the installation with these components:

• Water-Stop internal and external corner reinforcements: pre-moulded components for finishing joints without creases.
• Water-Stop drain kit: seals the joint between the membrane and any drain.
• SAFETUB and Mastic sealants: provide a watertight seal at pipe penetrations and membrane joints.

Long-lasting waterproofing for showers, terraces and swimming pools

To ensure the waterproofing works effectively, clean the substrate thoroughly, fix the membrane with tile adhesive, overlap the joints and reinforce corners and drains before tiling. Calculate the surface area and add 10 per cent to allow for overlaps and finishes. If you’re installing a shower, you’ll find everything you need in our built-in shower trays.
