Silica sand or quartz sand is an essential and indispensable element in any artificial grass installation. The importance of silica or quartz sand in an artificial turf installation is often underestimated or underestimated in many cases. Many people think that any sand is valid to add weight or ballast to an artificial turf. But nothing could be further from the truth.

The use of inappropriate or poor quality silica sand can cause serious damage to an artificial turf, causing accelerated and premature aging of the same.

NIVEL OF PURITY: Our silica sand has a quartz content of 98.4%, which implies a very low nivel of impurities that will prevent colonies of fungi, lichens or bacteria from flourishing, in the presence of humidity.

ROUNDED: The silica sand must be rounded so that the grain loses its natural edges. If these edges are not eliminated, when friction occurs between the soles of the shoes, the thread of the artificial grass and the silica sand, a high friction nivel is produced that makes the sand literally work like sandpaper. The irreversible consequence is that the thread wears out and breaks in a very short time.

WASHED: It is important that silica sand for artificial grass is washed to remove the dust that may accompany it both in its extraction and in the rounding process. The presence of dust makes the sand more easily compacted and therefore loses its water drainage capacity.

DRIED: The silica sand must be subjected to a drying process. In this way, when used, the grains will remain loose and it will be easy to introduce between the threads of the artificial grass. If you use wet sand, it will remain on the surface, on the grass, leaving thousands of filaments buried under it.

CLASSIFICATION: It is very important that a granulometry nivel is maintained as close as possible to that indicated on the product. The fact that there are grains of smaller size than specified in the product, makes this sand compact much more easily.
