Siliceous yellow sand for the manufacture of mortars, fillings, ground leveling and other uses in construction and civil works. Variable performance depending on the application to be performed

Description

Aggregates are fragments of rock, gravel and sand used in construction. Sands and gravels are necessary – along with water and cement – to make mortar and concrete, aggregates are also used for the manufacture of prefabricated (bricks, beams, sidewalks, concrete blocks, etc.).

Types of aggregates

Depending on the size, we can classify aggregates into sands (up to 5 mm) and gravels (above 5 mm). Total aggregates are those composed of a combination of sand and gravel.

SAND

Fine sand. Fine sand is composed of granules that pass through a mesh sieve of up to 4 mm, it has a thickness similar to that of beach sand. This can be extracted from natural gravel pits such as rivers or lakes, or come from the mechanical crushing of rocks in quarries. They are used to prepare façade plaster mortars.

-Crumb sand. A little thicker and more compact than the previous one.

-Coarse or washed sand. Coarse sand is considered to be that retained by a 4 mm sieve and that, like fine sand, can be gravel pits or quarries.

Natural sands give rise to mortars and concretes that are more docile or easier to work. Within the sands, both fine and coarse, we distinguish in turn in

• Riverwashed: high quality, high quartz content.

• Live or resured: they contain low clay content – which hardens before and cracks the mixture – and high silica that provides resistance. The chinchilla is notable for its silica content and has a characteristic ochre colour.

GRAVEL

Gravel and gravel. Gravel and gravel are necessary, together with sand and cement, to prepare concrete. Within these we find three possible sizes: 6-12 mm or 12-20 mm (also called chickpea) or 20-40 mm.

• I ironed. Mixture of sand and washed gravel.

•Scrambled. Mixture of gravel or gravel with sand.
